Transfer Emails from Horde to Yahoo Webmail in Simple Steps
Problem:
In Our organization, I am using Horde mail as an email communication. But recently I have been experiencing a lot of issues due to its interface. So, I decided to switch from horde to Yahoo mail account. But for me, the most challenging task was to transfer mail from horde to Yahoo mail platform.
After a lot of research, I got to know that I can export all the emails from horde mail to MBOX file format. But I was stuck while Importing the MBOX file in yahoo mail as I was not able to see any import option for MBOX file.
Now I want to know, Is there any way using which I can migrate emails from horde to Yahoo mail?
Solution:
The Horde email interface is bit complicate for a newbie to work with it. Nowadays most of the users are facing similar issue as explained above. considering the above scenario our goal is to get a fast and convenient solution.
Thus, we are going to introduce the method to migrate Horde to Yahoo mail.

Here are the Steps to Transfer Emails from Horde to Yahoo Mail
Step 1: Export emails from Horde Mail
- First you have to Right click on the folder (for e.g. Inbox ). Next, go to Export and click on it.
- Now the pop up will appear. Here you have to select either Uncompressed or Zip compressed MBOX file and then click on Ok to download it in your local system.
After following the above steps, you will have a MBOX file in your local system. Now, your next step is to configure yahoo email account to your local email client like Thunderbird.
Step 2: Configure Yahoo account to Thunderbird email Client
- Launch Thunderbird Email Client and click on email, under “Set up an account”
- A pop up will appear to set up Yahoo mail account. Just fill the fields ‘First Name’, ‘Email Address’ & ‘Password’.
- Select Imap as a configuration protocol and proceed with Done
After successfully configure the Yahoo mail account in Thunderbird, you just need to import the MBOX file into Thunderbird, which you have already downloaded from Horde mail.

Step 3: Import MBOX file to Thunderbird via SysTools Thunderbird Import Wizard
- First of all Download and Install “SysTools Thunderbird Import Wizard” Software and launch it on your system
- After that, you have to click on “Add File(s)” or “Add Folder” Button to add the MBox file on software
- Next, the software will display the added mbox file or the folder in the software’s dashboard then Click on Next.
- Select your identity as “Local Folder”
- Now, Just click on import button to begin the import process
After that you just have to drag and drop your imported folder into recently configured Yahoo account. Now, login to your Yahoo mail account and check the imported folder on the left bottom side of your yahoo mail account.
The migration from Horde to Yahoo mail has been done successfully.
Important Tips:
- While configuring the Yahoo mail Account in Thunderbird, user must fill the configuration details correctly with Imap protocol.
- Before proceeding with import, the mbox file in SysTools Thunderbird Import Wizard, user must select the Local Folders option from the drop down list.
- Drag and Drop the Imported folder to recently configured Yahoo account in Mozilla Thunderbird.
