  • DOC File Format: The DOC file was created as the primary format of MS Word in 1983. In 2006, the DOC format has been replaced by the DOCX format in the Word edition of 2007. DOCX files are created via the Open XML format and it stores documents as a separate collection of files in a compressed zip package.
