Steps to Extract Elements from PDF Files on Mac OS X

A Step by Step Guide to Extract Items from multiple PDF documents.

STEP 1

Launch SysTools Mac PDF Extractor. The initial software screen will appear to you as given below.

Click on the "Add File(s)" and "Add Folder(s)" to add PDF files on the software.

Note: The software can extract items from restricted PDF documents as well as from know password protected PDF files. But, in case of password locked PDF, the user must know the password & enter it in the "Password" column while adding the secured PDF. Otherwise proceed to next step.

STEP 3

Users can also draw out wrongly added PDF files with "Remove" and "Remove All" options respectively.

Now, click on the "Change" button to choose the destination location for extracted PDF Items.

Note: Users can check the “Create Single Folder Only” option to save all the PDF files extracted items in a single folder.

Click on the “Next” button to proceed further

Select the Item type as “Attachments” or “Images” or "Text" or users can select all

  Note: It is not necessary to apply item type filters for the extraction process.

Note: If users want to extract all attachments from PDF files then they can skip the "Attachment Filters". Otherwise, apply below filters.

Apply Attachment Filters

Here the tool provides two options:

  • Extract Attachment Up To: This option gives you a facility to choose file size during the extraction process of attachments. You can extract attachment from 1 KB to 100 MB.
  • File Type: With the help of this option you can include and exclude file extension during the attachment extraction process. For example doc, pdf, txt, etc.
  • Greater Than: With this option you can specify the file size of attachemnts, lesser size number attachments will get ignored by the Extractor tool.

After this, click on the “Extract” button to start the extraction process of attachments from PDF files

Now, the software starts the process & the pop-up message “Extract Process Completed Successfully” will be displayed. Then, click on the OK button.

Now, navigate towards the destination location & View Export Report containing details like (Source file path, Destination path, Attachments count, Images count, Text count and Export status) & Extracted Attachments

Note: If users want to extract all Images without saving them into PDF then they can skip the "Image Settings". Otherwise, apply desired settings as given below:

Apply Image Settings

Save Inline Images: Selecting this option will save all extracted images into PDF. Along with this, the provides two options also i.e. Create Individual PDF & Create Single PDF

  • Create Individual PDF: With this option create Individual PDF files containing the images of a particular PDF document.
  • Create Single PDF: With this option create a single PDF document containing all the images of all added PDF files.

If you don't want to save extracted images in PDF format, there are various other formats you can choose to save extracted images.

The tool also gives you the option to extract images from the desired pages of the PDF file. Under "Apply Page Setting" there are various options to select desired pages of the PDF file from which you want to extract images.

After applying all the filters you can click on the“Extract”button to start the image extraction process.

Apply Text Settings

There are two options given under Text settings, you can choose accordingly:

  • Maintain Formatting: With this option you will have the same formatting as the source format.
  • Maintain Page Number: You can choose to keep the page number while extracting text from the PDF files.

Just like "Image settings" here also you can apply page settings and select the desired pages of PDF from which you want to extract text.

After selecting the desired filter click on the "Extract" button.

Now, the software starts the process and the “Extract Process Completed Successfully” pop-up message will be displayed

Apply Rich Media

After selecting the Rich Media option you will see three options

  • File Size: This option gives you the flexibility to select the file size upto 1000 MB.
  • File Type: You can choose file type using this option.
  • Extract Rich Media Category Wise: By opting this option users can extract the pdf media category wise.

Just like others option here also you can apply page settings and select the desired pages of PDF from which you want to extract text.

Apply Metadata Settings

Under the Metadata settings you will see only one option.

  • Save Metadata into This option allow you to choose the file format to save the metadata of the PDF file
